Don’t let the views of the world affect your work. If you’re excelling at your job, work long hours, and devote much of your free time to work, you may be a workaholic. But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing, so long as you’re using your time in the best manner possible. Here are a couple of things to watch out for when you’re a workaholic so that you don’t accidentally lose anything you’d rather not lose.

Always Sacrifice on Purpose

Instead of sacrificing things because you’re a victim of your workaholism, make sure you pick and choose what gets to exit your life. Letting your passion control you means you might miss birthday parties, anniversaries and other important events in your life that you didn’t want to miss. Instead, prioritize. Work only on things you find to be important, even if it means turning down a prestigious work opportunity at your job. Don’t forget about fantasy football or fishing with your kids; it will make the work you do that much more meaningful.

Don’t Store Ideas in Your Head – Write Them Down Instead

You’re on vacation with your family, and all you can think about is work. You’re in that weird “in between” where your body is one place and your mind is in another. It means you don’t get any work done, and you don’t get to relax either. When your kids drag you into the ocean, all you can think about is a new concept you want to use. Instead, bring down a notebook – paper or otherwise – to write down any ideas that may come to mind. That way, you can work on them later and enjoy the time you have now.
