You have rolled out Microsoft Copilot. You have explained how it can save time, increase productivity, and simplify daily tasks.

But how do you know whether your team is actually using it, rather than letting it sit unused on their desktops?

Microsoft’s new Copilot Dashboard feature, called Benchmarks, is designed to answer that question.

Benchmarks, located within Viva Insights in Microsoft 365, provides a clear view of how employees are using Copilot and how that usage compares to other organizations.

This feature shows how many people across your business actively use Copilot, which applications they are using it in, and how often they return to it.

It also allows you to see how your adoption levels compare with similar companies, including those of the same size, in the same industry, or in the same geographic region.

In practical terms, you gain visibility into whether your teams are leading in AI adoption or falling behind.

It is natural to wonder whether this raises privacy concerns. Comparing your organizational data with external groups may seem unsettling at first. However, Microsoft emphasizes that all comparison data is anonymized, aggregated, and processed through models that protect privacy.

From a business perspective, this approach is strategic.

Many organizations are still struggling to fully adopt AI tools, even though the benefits are well documented. A recent study found that only about five percent of AI pilot programs progress beyond testing. Cultural resistance and outdated processes are often the reason.

The Benchmarks feature has the potential to change this by showing exactly where adoption is slowing down.

Greater visibility can make some employees uneasy, as no one wants to feel that their AI usage is being monitored. But this tool is meant to drive progress, not punishment. Understanding which teams are using Copilot effectively, and which are not, helps you identify where additional training, guidance, or support is needed.

Soon, you will not need to guess how well your organization is using AI. Copilot will make the answer clear.
