Have you ever opened a document or presentation only to find that key information is locked inside an image or graphic that is hard to interpret? It might be a complex chart or a photo with important details, but no one added a description.
Microsoft is working on a solution that could eliminate those moments, especially for people with accessibility needs.
The company is testing a new Windows 11 feature called Describe Image, powered by local AI built directly into your PC.
On Copilot+ PCs—the new generation of Windows devices that run AI locally—you will find Describe Image in the Click to Do menu. When selected, your PC instantly generates a detailed description of any image, chart, or graph you are viewing.
The first time you use it, your computer sets up the necessary AI models. After that, the process runs entirely on your device, meaning no images or data are sent elsewhere. The descriptions remain private and secure.
Currently, this feature is rolling out to Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel with Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. Microsoft has confirmed that AMD and Intel Copilot+ PCs will receive it soon.
At first glance, this might seem like a small improvement. But consider the impact: a team member with a visual impairment can understand a complex graph in seconds without waiting for assistance. Or imagine an employee quickly skimming a report and getting instant context from images without opening another app or tracking down someone to explain.
Microsoft is making technology work better for everyone by removing barriers and helping people be more productive.
Accessibility features like this are not about compliance. They have the potential to make a real difference in daily work. When employees can access information easily, they perform better, collaborate more effectively, and feel included. That benefits individuals and strengthens your business.
Windows 11 continues to introduce thoughtful improvements. Describe Image is another step toward a world where technology adapts to people, not the other way around.
